HornBlaster® Fog Horn Timer

Important Installation Note!

We want you to enjoy the benefits of our HornBlaster® Fog Horn Timer for a long time. To do so, it must be correctly installed. While most installations are simple and successful, the following information is very important to know:

The HornBlaster® Fog Horn Timer directly controls most electrically actuated vibrating-diaphragm 12 Volt DC horns, provided the horn requires less than 20 Amps of Direct Current (DC). Most horns require between 5 and 15 Amps, and are fused accordingly.

If your horn requires over 20 Amps, or is operated by compressed air directly from a DC motor (with no air solenoid), do NOT connect the HornBlaster Fog Horn Timer horn terminals directly to the horn button, not even for a moment! Connect an external relay to the HornBlaster Timer and have the external relay operate the horn. External relays can be obtained from marine stores and, in many cases, from stores which sell auto parts. The relay must have a 12 Volt DC coil and a contact with a suitable rating to handle the horn current.

If you are unsure of the current requirement for your horn, or if wiring an additional relay makes the installation excessively complicated, we recommend having a professional do the installation. (Be sure you obtain an as-installed wiring diagram.)

Using the HornBlaster® Fog Horn Timer to directly operate a horn that requires over 20 Amps – whether continuously or momentarily – can cause excessive heating inside the HornBlaster Timer and may damage the relay circuit.  Damage from excessive current is very easy to determine during a visual inspection of the internal circuit board and is NOT covered by warranty.
