HornBlaster® Fog Horn Timer

More Information

Caught in the fog? Whether enjoying a long cruise or a day trip, eventually you’ll encounter fog—or restricted visibility due to rain, hail, or even (for some of us) snow!

Although being on the water is fun, it’s not very enjoyable when you can’t see. It’s even less enjoyable when you can’t be seen or heard! With the HornBlaster® Fog Horn Timer operating your boats horn, you can be assured—at the very least—of being heard. And you don’t have to watch the clock!

Rule 35 of the International Collision Regulations (COLREGS) requires all vessels over 12 meters long to sound fog signals during restricted visibility. And smaller vessels should also sound a horn in conformance to the regulations to make their presence known. However, when you’re in the fog you don’t have time to operate the boat, keep track of your position, watch and listen for other boats as well as buoys and obstructions, and watch a clock to sound fog signals. Commercial vessels have a bridge crew and automatic equipment to do all that. You haven’t! Let the HornBlaster® Fog Horn Timer do it for you. It sounds your horn in conformance with the requirements for a power or sail driven vessel, depending upon the model, making way through the water. Click here for timing information

It adapts to most horns. Unless you’re driving the Queen Mary, you should be able to use your existing horn circuit without modification. The HornBlaster® Fog Horn Timer's integral switch will operate a DC horn that uses up to 20 Amps. If your horn requires more current, you can add an inexpensive relay or solenoid that will carry the necessary current, and switch the relay or solenoid with the HornBlaster® Fog Horn Timer.

Other HornBlaster® Fog Horn Timers won’t synchronize with yours! We’ve  designed the circuit to vary its timing slightly, so multiple HornBlaster® Fog Horn Timers in the same area will have slightly different timing.

Lacking space? The HornBlaster® Fog Horn Timer requires only about 3 by 4 inches (7.6 by 10 cm) of space and is just under 2 inches (5 cm) high. It even comes standard with an integral mounting bracket!

Do you have a loudhailer or VHF radio that sounds fog signals? Using your boat’s horn may be a better solution. Chances are it will be louder than the loudhailer speaker and won’t tie up your VHF radio.

The HornBlaster® Fog Horn Timer is easy to install and simple to use! Requiring only four wires (switched 12 Volts and two wires from your existing horn button), it frees you from having to keep track of elapsed time when you’re busy enough doing other things. When energized, it immediately sounds your horn for about 5 1/2 seconds, then begins marking time until the next blast is due (in about 100 seconds). It keeps this up until you turn it off. There’s simply no better way to automatically sound your fog signal than using the HornBlaster® Fog Horn Timer.
